About
The Research Reception is an annual event hosted by the Senate of College Councils’ Undergraduate Research Committee. The purpose of the Research Reception is to honor excellence in undergraduate research by recognizing the awards and accomplishments of students from various research organizations and programs in addition to Senate’s own research grant and spotlight winners. The Reception unites students, faculty, administrators, and staff in a special celebration of undergraduate research and its impact on the University’s academic culture. This reception also serves as a supplement to Research Week as it emphasizes the importance of undergraduate research on the UT campus.
The Senate’s Undergraduate Research Committee (URC) is charged with the task of promoting research opportunities and enhancing the undergraduate research experience at the University. URC actively encourages students to engage in undergraduate research and strives to make opportunities more accessible. As part of this mission, URC wants to recognize those students who have excelled in their participation in research by planning and hosting a Research Reception during the spring semester. URC is responsible for all of the event’s planning, logistics, and arrangements.
The Research Reception offers a unique opportunity for students to join together each year as an undergraduate research community and exclusively honor award recipients who have contributed outstanding research and knowledge. These student researchers have demonstrated how research empowers learning and embody the university’s motto of what starts here changes the world. The Reception carries out the Undergraduate Research Committee’s aim to foster a more visible and vibrant culture of undergraduate research at The University of Texas at Austin.
