Attend a General Assembly Meeting
Every other Thursday at 7 p.m., Senate holds its General Assembly Meetings in the Legislative Assembly Room of the Student Activity Center (SAC 2.302). The General Assembly Meeting is an opportunity for all members of Senate to gather in order to discuss and vote on important Senate issues, report on the progress of Senate committees and programs and communicate any developments of issues that may affect the quality of academic life at the university. All members of The University of Texas at Austin community are invited to attend Senate General Assembly meetings.
To view a schedule on Senate’s upcoming General Assembly meetings, visit the Meetings page.
Participate in One of Senate’s Programs
The Senate of College Councils holds numerous programs each year that allow students to expand their academic horizons, discover new resources on campus, and see all that UT Austin has to offer. To learn more about these programs and events, visit Senate’s Programming page at http://utsenate.org/programming/.
Join an Agency
An agency of the Senate of College Councils is a registered student organization in the University community that fulfills the academic mission of the Senate of College Councils and the University through the organization’s initiatives. If you have more questions about agencies, contact Administrative Director, Bala Varadhan, at bvaradhan@utexas.edu.
To find more information about how to join a particular agency, see the Agencies page of the Senate website
Apply for a University-wide Appointment
Each year, Senate appoints student members to several university-wide committees and working groups. Applications are made available each spring for terms that take place the following academic year. Students appointed as university-wide representatives provide occasional reports at Senate General Assembly meetings to keep the assembly up to date concerning discussions taking place within committees. For a list of Senate appointments and the students currently holding those positions, click here.
Have Your Student Organization Apply for Senate Appropriations
Each year, the Senate Financial Directors Committee distributes $10,000 to registered student organizations. These organizations are also eligible to apply for printing allocations on Senate’s copier. Any organization registered with the Office of Student Activities and Leadership Development (SALD) is eligible to apply.
Appropriations applications will be released before the start of the new semester and will be accepted in two phases, defined as a two week period during which the application is received. For more information on Senate’s appropriations process, visit http://utsenate.org/appropriations/.
